Entry Requirements:
Certificate of Competence as Engine Officer and ETO.
Learning Environment:
Instructor-led, to be delivered in a U-type sitting Arrangement or Online supported with an online simulator.
Goal:
Refresh knowledge and enable attendees to conduct routine checks and maintenance safely, excellence in trouble shooting.
Objectives:
- Electrical safety.
- Understanding electrical drawings and symbols. Tracing electrical circuit diagrams.
- Use of various measuring instruments and electrical tools
- Circuit breakers, fuses, relays & contactors
- Understand the wiring of electrical starting arrangement of motors from basic to more complex systems.
- Troubleshooting of electrical system.
- Electronic components – semiconductors, diodes, transistors, thyristors, operational amplifiers, triodes, and rectifiers
- Applications of electronic components on board and troubleshooting of electronic systems and case studies.
- PLC architecture, concepts of ladder diagram, PLC fitted systems, troubleshooting in PLC.
- Boiler / IGG Automation with PLC – Tracing the logic circuit.
- Basic automation concepts, introduction to automation.
- PID control and tuning.
- Concepts of SIPART valve positioner PS2.
- Understand the concept of the generator excitation system and associated control unit, AVR, and ACB.
- A brief introduction to VFD and Soft starters.
Certification and reference:
The course meets the objectives listed in STCW Code sections A-III/1; A-III/2
